Another important use of DMM is to synthesize polyformaldehyde. Polyformaldehyde is an important engineering plastics. It has high mechanical strength and can replace copper, aluminum and other metals. It is widely used in automobile industry. DMM is more important as a diesel additive. It can not only replace part of diesel oil and reduce crude oil imports, but also improve diesel combustion performance and reduce particulate matter and nitrogen oxides emissions. It can be said that DMM is the next generation of new diesel additives.
